Let’s break these down some more and take action:

Word of Mouth

Ask your friends and family if they know someone who needs help with social media. This is how I got my first paying client and then this client referred me to two others. With in a month I had 3 clients!

Gig Sites

Create a Fiverr and or UpWork account to have this channel open to you. I found a handful of clients this way as well. This doesn’t need to be the only way you get clients but it is still a good platform to showcase your skills and reach potential clients who are searching for your specific services.

Facebook Groups

There are two ways to use Facebook Groups. First, join facebook groups of other business owners in your city, province or state. This is a great place to connect with other business owners, be inspired and feel less alone as an entrepreneur.

Next is to join specific facebook groups of your clients. If you want work with salons or spas, join facebook groups with spa business owners. In these groups please follow the admin rules. You do not want to be spammy or get kicked out. You can observe, if someone asks a questions about social media you can answer to start building those relationships.

Pitching Your Services:

You can email or DM businesses who you want to work with but there is balance in how you do this without coming off salesy or making them feel bad about their social media account.

Before you cold message or DM follow the account, engage with their content and when you do make that first initial outreach ask them if they are looking to outsource their social media efforts? You can share a pitch deck or one sheet about your services if you want too.

Job Postings

Another way to pitch your services to brands that you KNOW are looking for social media managers is if they have posted the job on a job site. Look at Indeed, Linkedin or remote job boards to see who is hiring. Once you get a brand name, do a little research to find a contact in HR or marketing to pitch your freelancing services.

Freebie Offers

Create a freebie offer that really resonates with your ideal clients. Once they sign up for your free offer you can start building that relationships via email marketing. This is long term process where you are connecting with new potential clients and showcase what you have to offer.

Networking

Attend events with businesses and other entrepreneurs to start building relationships. You never know who can refer you to your next client.

Social Media

Last and the one that might take the longest is growing your social media accounts as social proof. Take your audience on the journey of building your social media business. This can reach your client, build long lasting relationships and connect with your audience on a human level.

Finding social media clients can be difficult at first but once you become comfortable with selling your services it will be much easier than you think. Utilize a few methods from this list in order to reach clients from a variety of different places. And the worst thing a new social media manager can do is simple WAIT for your client to find you. When starting out, you want to be active in finding clients.
