The Monotony of Self Improvement. Trying to improve your life seems to be the focus instead of actually improving your life. What are the blindspots you have in your everyday that is making your self improvement journey unbearable and down right impossible at times.

If you are someone who is looking to improve your life whether that is mindset, weight loss, career, relationships and more then you need to get out of your own way. Stick with me. Thinking about how your life will be so much better if… fill in the blank with your desire. Is not going to get you what you desire.
A self improvement journey is monotonous on a regular, smegular day. There are times of excitement, break throughs, and crash outs but that is not where your improvement comes. Self improvement is tested when things get difficult. How do you handle your most recent trigger? Did you react the same old same old or were you able to regulate and work through it?
Of course this all depends on what you want out of your Self Improvement journey. A regulated nervous system? A million dollars? Being able to communicate exactly what you need out of a relationship? Figure out where you want to go on yourself improvement journey to align your actions to get there.
Want to be a cleaner person, start with space. Want to quiet your facing thoughts, start with mind. And you guessed it, want to feel better in your body, start with… body.
These are examples of things you can do, feel free to adjust or add to fit your life.
Mind
- 5 Minutes of Breathwork
- Morning affirmations
- Sit in silence for 1 minute
- 10 Minute Breathwork
- 5 Minutes of EFT Tapping
- Sit in silence for 2 minutes
- 10 Minutes of Breathwork
Body
- 10 Minute Outside Walk
- 20 Minute Stretch
- 45 Minute Kickboxing Workout
- 30 Minute Walking
- 45 Minute Foam Roll
- 20 Minute Dance
- 45 Minute Relax and Stretch
Space
- Declutter one draw/shelf/closet
- Complete 1 task in your laundry cycle (fill basket, put a load on, switch to dryer or fold)
- Sweep/Vacuum high traffic areas in the home
- Sit in a different spot (even if it is on the floor) during your evenings
- Sound cleanse your space (music, hum, bell)
- Wash/change your bedding
- Add decor/trinket/ feel good item.
I bet you are thinking: Marissa, this is only 21 items! Seven under each category. That is no where near 90 days. Didn’t I tell you self improvement is monotonous? The goal is to do all 21 things over a 90 day period. Doing the same thing over and over is difficult, challenge yourself. And you get to decide how to execute this.
First 30 days you do Mind, then Body, then space. Or do you complete 3 tasks a day (one from each category) for 90 days straight? For example Monday’s you do: 5 Minutes of Breathwork, 10 Minute Walk and declutter one shelf etc.
The goal is to carve out pockets of time to complete each of these small tasks that WILL improve your life.
Remember, doing one task, one time is not going to feel like much. In fact, your brain is going to convince you that it is pointless to declutter the drawer or to complete that 20 minute dance workout but it is up to you to push past that voice and say “I am going to do it anyways.” Because what might feel pointless today will feel like an accomplishment in when you times it by 90 days.
Self improvement is small, everyday things that help you build the life you want. Some days your “want” is going to be rotting on the couch. And others will be walking 10k, meal prepping and making time for creativity. It’s up to you how you balance it.
