Are you in a creative funk? You have so many projects and ideas but you can’t seem to get anything done. Or at least you want to get more things but feel like there isn’t enough time in the day to do so.

Mornings can feel rushed if you are heading to work or school. And then in the evening you are drained from the day. How can you make time for your arts, crafts and projects during the week?
I use to live for the weekends. The week was filled with complaining, irritability and counting down the minutes until Friday evening when I new I would have an entire day on Saturday to create. But I came to realize that just one day was not enough to fill me up.
And if I love creating things why wait to the weekend to do so.
5 Morning Habits for Creative Procrastinators:
- Creativity First
- No Phone
- Feel Good Music
- Nutrition
- Get Ready for the day
Creativity First
Do something creative first thing in the morning. If you are not a morning person this will be a challenge so you can try to do something creative on your lunch break or mid day in order to do something creative each day.
I am a morning person so when I set my alarm the night before I get to look forward to my something creative. For me that can be cross stitching, writing, reading, crocheting or something else that floats my boat that morning.
The goal with doing something creative in the morning is twofold. First, I have something to look forward to when I fall asleep. And second, I am making progress on my creative projects. Even if I crocheting one row or make twenty stitches. That is still progress.
Doing something creative in the morning does not need to be hours of work. It can be 5 to 10 minutes. And I know, for my perfectionists doing something for 5 minutes probably seems pointless but try it out before you write it off completely.
No Phone
But the phone down and back away expeditiously. You do not need to see what is happening on your FYP within the first hour of your day. It will be there when you get to it later!
Opening your phone while still in bed is going to set the tone. If you watch a video that pisses you off or fills you with sadness it is going to be very hard to get in the creative mood.
Feel Good Music
Turn on a playlist of music that makes you feel good, happy and energized. Even better is if you have a playlist connected to your creative project. Getting ready to write? Put on your writing playlist. Getting ready to workout, put on your hype workout music.
Music is so beneficial to your mood. I mean I still listen to sad songs if I need a good cry! But the same can be true about uplifting your mood.
Nutrition
Having enough energy to start off your day is essential and that can come from a well rounded meal and hydration. I am notorious for just have a cup of coffee in the morning and then by 10am I am ravenous and sluggish.
Try to set some time aside or meal prep a nutrition dense first meal of the day to give your body and brain the power to fire on all cylinders.
Get Ready for the Day
Last but not least get yourself ready for the day. Especially for my work from home creatives. It can be so easy to stay in your pyjamas for hours but there is something about putting on a cute outfit that will boost your confidence.
The goal with any morning routine is to set yourself up for success. This is not about being perfect or checking off every item on this list every single day or else.
The idea here is to put a handful of things in the morning that make you feel good, motivated and inspired to take action towards your goals.
For me by accomplishing these items on this morning routine I will feel productive and accomplished. That then allows me time to relax in the evenings, explore something new or work on a different creative project.
