Small Picture vs Big Picture
As a multi passionate creative the big picture is an overwhelming dark cloud of what ifs.
What if paint every day for a year, I’ll be an artist.
What if I buy all the supplies for garden right now, by next spring I will have the most perfect garden ever.
What if I start a crochet business and attend a market in a few months (never having finished a full project)
The reason the big picture is so overwhelming is because you don’t know what to focus on. There are two many options. How can you balance them all?
The answer is in the small picture. Narrow your view of your current day to day routines to something small and manageable. It might not feel grand and exciting to crochet for only ten minutes a day but you are still progress on your projects.
Nurture Your Creativity like a bestie
Spend time with your creativity just like you would a best friend. Some days you won’t want to make plans but you know that hanging out even if its for a short time can lift your mood. This can look like making creativity dates where you plan ahead of time or sit down in a quiet space with a meditation or journal to connect with your creativity in the moment.
Slower progress is still progress
Being multi passionate means your time is going to be spent doing multiple things. This means that your progress on one project, goal or concept is going to be slower than someone who is not multi passionate.
This means you have to accept that one hour every week is all you can allocate towards this passion then celebrate that. That’s 52 hours in the year. Take a moment to align with what you believe your progress “should” be when it comes to your progress. And then start to establish a new train of thought that slower progress is still progress.
A quarterly habit is till a habit
Similarly to how you view time and progress you can also view your habits in showing up for them as many times as you deem necessary. If you do something every quarter, four times a year, that is still a habit. You set a goal and showed up to it.
When you set the intention to complete a habit your first instinct might be to complete it every single day and if you cannot accomplish that you have failed. That is your insecurities disguised as perfectionism holding you back from reseting each day, week, month or quarter.
Express your multiple passions in all their glory
Being multi passionate might feel isolating at times because it seems like everyone else has it all figured out. The reality is that no one has it figured out. We are all one action away from a completely different life. However, up until this point you lived with in your own perception of the world. You also might think that something is “wrong” because you cannot pick one thing and stick with it for the rest forever.
This is your sign to express your multiple passions in as many ways as you can. Tell a friend, start a journal, make a video diary, write a blog, or build a personal brand around it. Embracing all the sides of you can build self confidence and courage to keep trying even when things get rough.
Schedule What Can, Accept What You Can’t
Learning to love your multi passionate creative self is about spending time with your creativity. In order to do this on a regular basis, schedule in creative sessions every day or week. This will help you to build the habit of showing up for creativity even when your energy levels are lower.
I know that scheduling your creativity go against the need to “flow” with what you are creating but sometimes structure will help you get started.
Since April 2025 I have done a 30 to 45 minute creativity session. It started out as a way to finished some of the incomplete projects I have around my house. I completed a crochet project and a diamond painting. Now I have changed my creative sessions to one writing session every day and one business session every day.
The business session might not seem creative but it’s time I get to spend writing blog posts, emails, notion templates and more.
I realize I can only focus on so much at one given time. If I schedule in my top priorities but also leave time open to just explore. It gives me the freedom to be creative but also hold me accountable at the same time.
Daily Habit Resets Every Month
Life is always ebbing and flowing. There are ups and downs. Times when things feel great and times when things feel completely off kilter. When it comes to your daily habits start allowing yourself to reset every month. Shed what happened last month with a thank you and then reset how you want to show up for the next month ahead.

Build Trust with Yourself
As you learn to accept your multi passionate self it will be easier to trust yourself to come to back a project or restart something you stopped months ago. Building trust with yourself comes down to showing up for the things you say you are going to do. If you want to write for 30 minutes ever day but it’s already the weekend and you haven’t opened you manuscript, that is not going to feel good.
To build trust with yourself start by asking what do you want to do right now. And then ask yourself if that aligns with your goals and daily habits. Most of the time you might want to curl up in bed and read your kindle instead of doing that 30 minute workout. Or scroll social media instead of working on your art. Take one small thing and start showing up for it. This can be as simple as hanging up your jacket when you get home instead of putting it on the back of chair. It’s a new action you don’t normally enforce but it’s easy to accomplish and build trust with yourself each time you complete that task.
Action vs Inaction
The hardest part about being multi passionate creative is the overthinking. Finding a new idea and being consumed by it’s potential. But then there is that voice inside that tells you there is no point in trying because you won’t stick to it or it will take to long.
However, action is where your dreams come true. When you are ruminating on a new project or idea as yourself this:
- Do I need to think about this? or
- Do I need to take action on this?
Your brain will be comfortable thinking about your next thing forever. It will make a list in your head, get you excited about the future without need to do a thing.
On the other side, taking action is scary but necessary to quit those over power thoughts of “it will never work out” or ” I never stick to anything anyways.”
You can accomplish your goals and habits as multi passionate creative by taking action.
Celebrate your accomplishments
As a multi passionate creative it is hard to celebrate your accomplishments because you put so much pressure on your creativity that you think the result should just be inevitable. Or there is a feeling of “it took you long enough” to complete that you don’t feel like celebrating because you didn’t accomplish it fast enough.
This is where you can really connect with your creativity and how up for you multiple passions. Celebrate every moment you took action towards your creativity or projects.
