Where does all your time go? Understanding where you spend your time is essential to pursuing a creative life. The saying we all of 24 hours in the day is true on the surface level. We do literally only have 24 hours in a single day. However, your 24 hours and my 24 hours can be very different due to life circumstances and responsibilities.
Some people who work remote and don’t have to worry about traffic on their daily commute or worry about calculating the exact route their buses will take. Keep this in mind as you work through each routine. The goal is to determine which areas of your life you want to start changing in order to reach your dream life.

Morning Routine
A morning routine is designed to help you set your day up for success. And the best part is that you get to define what success looks like to you. Some days it will be rolling over and reading. Others will be waking up at your alarm, getting your workout clothes on and heading to the gym.
Each morning can be different based on your mood, your time of life and what you want to accomplish this week, month and year.
A morning routine should involve at least one activity you love. Something that brings a smile to your face. Why? Because it will get easier to get out of bed in the morning if the first thing you are doing is something you love rather than running around the house because you are late.
A misconception with morning routines is your need to wake up at 5am in order for them to be beneficial. That may be the case for people who enjoy getting up that early. However, a morning routine can be 5 minutes long or 2 hours long. It is completely up to you.

Cleaning Routine
A clutter spaces equals a cluttered minds. And in my opinion clutter minds do not strive for their goals. Having a cleaning routine that helps you maintain your space will benefit your goals long term.
A cleaning routine can be writing a list of everything you want to get done and checking it off for the week. You can laminate a full blown cleaning chart based on each room in your house. Or start with 5 minute tidy’s. Set a timer for 5 minutes, pick one task and speed through it. If you do that every night before bed you will always have a tidied space to wake up too.
Yes, laundry will always need to get done (ugh). No one likes cleaning the bathroom but if you do small parts of it on a consistent basis then the bigger mess won’t accumulate to make you overwhelmed with where to start.
I can also tell when i am avoiding something when the mess and clutter starts to build up because I can focus on cleaning or what needs to be cleaned instead of the scary task or project I am trying to avoid.

Creativity Routine
Create. Find time in your days and weeks to simply create. Some of you might be scrunching your nose because you can’t schedule creativity you NEED to go with the flow. Well, the flow is great but for creative women who have busy schedules with work, school, kids etc. putting even 10 minutes aside to work on a creative project is essential. This can look like drawing in a sketch book for 10 minutes. Writing a short story in your notes app. Or schedule in a full hour on the weekends where you sit down to do something creative. And that is your creative time to do whatever comes to you.
It is important to be diligent in your craft especially for the multi passionate women here, you might be holding off because you want the excitement of this new project or idea to last. So if you avoid working on it the ideas are there which fill you with joy but actually sitting down and working on your art is scary because you might fall out of love with the idea.
But the beauty of being creative is that inspiration is everywhere. Holding onto an idea or concept too tightly can hinder your progress. Allow yourself to sit with the fact the creative ideas will come and go and that is okay. As a creative person there will always be something to create but you have to make space for it.
Carve out a small spaces in your home or apartment to be your creative domain if needed so your body knows that when you sit in the chair or at that table or in that room it is time to create.

Health Routine
Make time for your health. This means moving your body, strengthening your back, posture and core. Plus, eating enough nutritious food that fuels your body. This can look like a daily step goal. Trying two new recipes a month. Or meal prepping adult lunchables so you have something to pull out of the fridge when you get hungry.

Life Admin Routine
There are just somethings we don’t want to do but it has to be done. Taxes, booking appointments like oil changes and teeth cleanings. Tracking your finances and expenses. Plan ahead to any events or birthday’s that might be coming up. I recommend to doing a life admin day at least once a month to help you stay on track with your goals.
Each routine you have in place can connect to bigger goals or simply give you peace of mind.
Sometimes we can get so overwhelmed with the big picture that we forget about the tiny daily habits we do have control over. Take a moment to sit with one of these routines and see which one you would like to start changing in your day to day.
