A side business is a creative outlet and income stream for multi passionate people. No, you do not need to monetize every single hobby or project you come across. However, if you are jumping from idea to idea, project to project feeling overwhelmed, burnt out because you can’t just sit down and create. Those life responsibilities are always top of mind, taking away from your creativity. Investigate what side business or two will work best for you.

Are you a multi passionate creative women?
You’ve always felt like you were meant for more. Through school, job after job, nothing really clicked. You might have picked a career path and labeled it a passion to feed that deep churning feeling of craving more. You lose interest in the job around the four to six month mark because it is no longer new and exciting. But your rational brain feels the need to force you to stay in a position that might not be thrilling but it pays the bills – Reframe your 9-5 and become the creative women you’ve always desired here – so you fight yourself for years in a job that has never felt right – but is there really a perfect job for everyone? Not particularly.
That being said you are forcing your creativity into a societal box that it is not meant to be in. Your creativity ebbs and flows, is loud and quiet, boiling and simmer through you at all times. Craving a space where you can simply create is human. Spending time writing, drawing, reading, sewing, singing, dancing, building, typing, filming is art. You are art.

How do you balance your soul deep need to be creative with earning enough money to stop worrying about money?

What do you need to learn in order to make your side business quest successful. Note, I have tried a handful of side business, some keep my attention for a few months and other’s I have been doing for years. The learning curve comes with time but if you want to start a candle business you will need to do research on wax, jars, labels, fragrances etc.

Start up costs
Next is unfortunately money. Remember – rich artists, millionaire artists – there is a start up cost for these side businesses. Some range from free to $100 and others can be thousands depending on how deep you go.

Creative outlet
After you get going and the start your business phase dwindles, make sure that there is still an element that fuels your creative outlet. Like most things you have to sell and market and throw out into the world like a tiny cog in the capitalist wheel, you still want to enjoy the process. You might not thrive at every stage of running a side business but a majority of it should bring you a creative satisfaction.
For example, I LOVE making social media templates. I have been doing it since 2020 however, marketing them, creating content around them, selling them day in and day out turned into pulling teeth in 2022. I barely touched them after that until recently. My joy for the templates I made has slowly started to come back and I am explore that income stream once more. I needed to find the balance between creating what I love and still working in my businesses.
Long term commitment
To start seeing monetary returns on your side businesses there is a commitment that needs to be address. Do you have six months to a year to really get things started. This is a side business after all so every waking minute will not be spent on it. And as a creative woman you will jump to another project as well. Will you come back to this creative endeavour often enough to make the time, the start up costs and the end goal worth it?
If the answer is yes, you have officially started your journey on your next side business.
Remember, that being a mutli passionate creative woman is not a negative thing. You GET to learn so many new things. Create things some people will never even try to do. There is not box you need to fit in. Just stack another box beside it, carve a hole and each side and now you have a door into the next box over.
Never stop expanding, taking up space and pursuing your creativity.
